Contemporary Women in Design

Contemporary Women in Design enhances learning through a feminist lens, challenging dominant narratives in design history. Featuring five original crossword puzzles, the book introduces students, practitioners, and enthusiasts to 60 influential women whose work has shaped the field.

Scope included research, writing, editorial layout, and development of a print-based game.

Approach

Used the iterative design process to transform research on women in design into an educational tool. Crossword puzzles were chosen for their ability to improve engagement, recall, and vocabulary—creating a format that informs while encouraging active learning.

Outcome

The final deliverable is a printed publication combining accessible game formats with editorial storytelling. It serves as both a learning tool and a celebration of overlooked figures—designed to spark conversation and shift perspective in both academic and professional settings.
