Marissa Balbuena is a graphic designer and type enthusiast working within the early childhood education industry. Born and raised in Miami, FL, she draws inspiration from her Filipino-Ecuadorian heritage and diverse family.

As Graphic Design Lead at the UF Lastinger Center for Learning, Marissa specializes in developing and implementing visual identity systems for wide range of educational products. With a passion for organizational effectiveness and systems thinking, she leads a team of graphic designers and student assistants in creating accessible and pedagogical learning materials for educators and children learners. Additionally, through her personal venture, Buena Type, Marissa experiments with letterforms and creates typefaces as a means to explore cultural identity and ethnicity.

Marissa holds a BFA in Graphic Design and an MS in Management from the University of Florida. In her free time, she is refining her cooking skills, hitting the gym, or enjoying long walks with her husband and their dog.
